Mirror, Mirror...

Here are some new mirrors I just finished. They are a departure from my ellipses and squares. I carved patterns from nature or Native American-influenced glyphs into some of the pieces. Hope you like them.

The Prize Inside

Mother Nature continues to surprise and inspire me.
When I started working on the base for this lamp, the shape intrigued me. It was sturdy, yet flowing...ideal for a new lamp. So, I diligently cleaned it up and found the prize -- a triangular rock embedded inside with the wood growing around it. The wood seems thicker where it cradles the stone, perhaps like a scar. I look at the wood around the rock as a frame highlighting the texture of the granite and the beauty of the wood.

New Lamp: A Bit Of A Departure And A Real Beauty

Every once in a while it pays to look at your work from a different angle.  I did just that on this lamp and WOW! When my friend Abby saw it, she said, "You are hot, Dave!"  Well, at least I think this lamp fired me up for more new angles and colors.

Hope you like it: Lightship Lamp #59.

Things that inspire me -- Part 2

The fabulous work of Wayne Williams ©2011

Wayne & Marsha Williams, friends from California, just left after a five-day visit and things around here suddenly turned dull. This couple has more talent, exuberance and creativity and joie de vivre than any couple I know.

Wayne was here to shoot new Fall aspen and mountain shots for his project called HDSerenescapes™. Click here for a view of the just released Fall Colorado HDSerenescapes.  Unbelievable!

I cannot begin to describe the experience of hearing the wind whistle through redwoods as Wayne's HD camera pans across an unspoiled forest. Wayne captures live sound as he is recording in HD. Water burbling down river rocks, snow plopping off aspen leaves onto the ground, a distant elk bugle are truly awe-inspiring...calming, yet invigorating and a brilliant idea. Wayne tells it best on his website: "As moving artwork for video displays, HDSereneScapes™ are intended to support a calming and peaceful state of mind in our ever present pursuit of happiness.

Captured in the highest possible HD video format,Wayne Williams has created the virtual equivalent of a relaxing, calming walk in the woods or down the coast. The HDSerenescapes are so reasonably priced, many people might want several. I can see hospitals, cancer centers, pain clinics, businesses, physicians, dentists and other healthcare facilities having them everywhere. They are also an insomniacs dream! Check them out and watch for Wayne's new Fall Aspens version coming soon. You, too, will be inspired by Wayne's work.
